Garden

This is what I harvested for yesterday's dinner, straight from the garden, and nothing tastes better than fresh veges.

Problem is, I seriously lack motivation in the garden at the moment.  I think it has something to do with being the only one who does anything in there.  Hubby works full-time and when he has spare time at home he does other stuff, like mow the lawns.  He does get enthused about the orchard sometimes and helps water and mulch in that area, and he enjoys eating the fresh veges, it's just not a passion for him.  And because it's not a passion for me either, just an interest and something I feel we should be doing, it becomes a bit of a chore when I'm doing it all on my own.

It could be the heat too.  Summer has finally shown itself and the days are heating up.  It gets uncomfortably hot out there if I try and do any work after nine am.

So instead of just moaning about it and resenting it, I'm going to try a new approach.  Evening gardening!  Usually I spend evenings sewing, blogging, talking and watching the news at eight.  But I'm going to try and get out in the garden once the kids are in bed and hopefully Hubby will join me.  Work is so much more enjoyable when there is someone else to share it with.

And on quilting matters - I'm just hand sewing down my faced binding on my "Beneath the Southern Skies" entry.  Hopefully I'll be able to photograph it properly soon and show it to you.

  1. Well this comment seems to work fine. How do you get your veges to look so "vege like"?? Cabbage and carrots are like my vege Y seams... they always look so weird you don't really want to use them... now I'm very pleased with my potatoes, cucumbers, beetroot and I will be pleased when the heat finally makes the tomatoes ripen.

  2. I just feel like there's too much to do in a given day! I'd love to garden in the evening but the bugs are out in force then and they like to eat me :0(

I've just been munching away on freshly picked beans while waiting for my lunch (left over pasta/sauce) to heat...yum yum yum!

  3. I have a 'quilters Garden' and I have quit feeling guilty about it....well this week I have. There are only so many hours in the day and the bugs and humidity have the upper hand here in Northland, so they win! I quilt instead and there are not enough hours in the day to get what I need done in that department.
What ever you are doing in the vege patch must be spot on as your crop looks great.

  4. The kids are the vegie gardeners at my place - they've just started off basil, tomatoes, parsley and chives from seeds. These were kits that they got for Christmas and so far everything has sprouted and is growing well. So fingers crossed!

  5. Yup, too hot here during the day right now to get enthused, lots of the toms got sunscald but we still have some going, courgettes, spring onions, but yeah, no one does it except me. Oh, the boys enjoy picking the fruit when it's around and planting flowers.

Wow, you have good looking veggies!

  6. Your veges look great! Yes gardening in the evenings is the best. We were out last night walking around doing things til quite late, saw a fabulous sunset and pink sky, enjoyed the tui flying around us and the wind had dropped so it was lovely and calm for a change!
We don't watch TV (have one for watching DVDs but not an aerial) get all our news online, highly recommended!
