My name is Charlotte, sometimes known as Ms Lottie, occasionally as The Slightly Mad Quilt Lady. This is my blog, where you'll find me writing a lot about my quilting and textile arts and a little about my family's life in a small seaside town in New Zealand. Haere mai!

I'm not very well, and haven't been for a few days now. The eyes have almost healed, still have a lump on my forehead - that's almost gone too, but what's bothering me is a nasty cold. The kids and Hubby had it a week or two ago and I thought I escaped...ha!
So I'm hanging out at home and working on a couple of quilts that have deadlines. The blue log cabin, and hopefully I'll be able to show you the completed top very soon and this bird one. I'm showing just a couple of sneak peeks as it's kind of a commission and I don't want to spoil the surprise by too many WIP (work in progress) shots.
Hubby is slowly working on me with the house. It's a complete dump and needs so much work, but in reality that's the best way to buy a house - it's much cheaper to put in your own elbow grease! He's also talking me round by designing a second floor studio...oh the water views I'd have...yup, he's a pretty good sweet talker. I'll keep you posted, but right now I think it's time for another lemon honey drink.

The Whiny Sniffler
Head colds always get me down. They sap my energy and leave me wanting to do nothing but read. (Unlike my crazy daughter who always seems to have boundless supplies of go-go juice!). And read is about all I've been doing lately (The Liveship Trader series by Robin Hobb if anyone is interested, sci-fi fantasy escapism at it's best). And I'm just managing to keep the house from drowning in chaos.
Maybe I'm languishing because I know that when I'm better I have painting to do. Lots of painting! I know I should be really happy that my studio is all but done, but instead I have a whiny monologue running in my head. "It's going to take ages. Can't we hire someone? I don't really know how to paint a room." Moan, moan, moan! I need to kick myself in the butt and just get going.
Then I need to source a laundry bench, the floor needs to be sanded and varnished, the bathroom needs to be painted and my boy's bedroom wall needs to be painted.
And then it's ALL DONE!

Oh dear. Doesn't this look awful? We've got the sickies round here. Or at least, she does. I'm hoping it will remain at just her. Poor little poppet. She'd just finished having a wee.... ahh, 'regurgitate' inside and she told me that we should go and do this outside. I left her too it knowing that she wouldn't need me again for at least 30 minutes (that's how long it's been between episodes). I came back to find her like this.
"Just resting." she said. We're off to the doctor soon. I don't usually for tummy bugs, but this one just hasn't settled and she hasn't kept any liquid down for more than 12 hours.
Have a nice and well weekend everyone.
