How big is big enough?

A while ago I started a 21st Birthday Signature quilt for a friend's son.  I had planned to put all the signed blocks on the front, but lots of them were too rude.  So I decided to applique them to the back (they all ignored the seam allowance too) and make a nice top instead.  Today I finished the top as I had planned, he's a hunter so I think he'll like it.  However, I'm now thinking it's not big enough.  It measures 50" square - get out your tape measures and tell me what you think.  My hubby thinks that it's big enough - it could be a wall hanging, a lap quilt, or an accent on a bed.  I'm not sure and want more feedback - put your two cents in!

However, I'm not asking the advice of this crazy looking monkey!  Miss Wild Hair got into my bag and found lipstick and mascara - and she knew exactly where to put them.  She just needs to learn to look in the mirror during application ;)

  1. Do 21yr old blokes really get into the spirit of quilts? After all, there are going to be 20-something yr old girls around who may not appreciate sleeping under a quilt with hunting references - so may be keeping it as a lap/wall quilt would be better. Really like the way it is looking... very bloke-ish!

  2. I think it's a great size - love it! Practise makes perfect, so they say. Miss O should have the make-up thing well and truly sorted by the time she's 12 if she keeps going that way. My 12-going on 13 year old almost has it right and had her first trip out in high heeled boots the other day - scary!!

  3. I'm wondering if it needs another border? maybe pick out one of the browns or beige's you've already used, plain except for maybe pieced corner stones?
Ok that is my 2cents worth.

  4. Love the quilt. If I was making it, I cant (just cant!) make square quilts, so I would be putting another lot of flying geese top and bottom to make it rectangular. But, that's just me :-) Love the little monkey's mischief too !!

I like the quilt. Leave it as is.

  6. I'm for the wall hanging. I can just see it now. Pop has a couple of cousins who have a hunting shack which is as nice as our home. I can just see it hanging on their wall. A beautiful piece of artwork.

  7. What does the quilt say to you? Maybe I'm a little crazy, but I had one once that refused to let me make it bigger. And it is a wonderful table topper!

  8. I think it looks fab ...as Faye suggested,I'd probably add the border of flying geese top and bottom too and make it a wall-hanging.
LOL @ Miss Wild Hair! Just adorable hehe!

  9. My problem at that age was to get youngest to wear stage make up! I think he has that figured now :)

The quilt looks great as is but maybe another border would improve it. I wouldn't go too big or it might just get slung in a corner and forgotten! (I've had this happen!).

  10. I think it looks great the way it is. I was hoping you'd post a picture of the back, too. I'd love to read the rude remarks! :-)

Your daughter's lips look like the lips of people who get these injections to make them look puffy & big. So funny. Nice laugh.
